The E point trial system adopted this season throughout our junior district and administered in each football district across the metro area, has been imperative in ensuring our game continues to prosper in a fun, safe atmosphere.

The point is allocated to teams who demonstrate the correct behaviours and promote a positive game day environment. Overall, our clubs have been successful in upholding their very high standards and continue to provide our budding stars with the perfect environment to develop their game and have fun with their mates.

Our quality volunteers, including our coaches, team managers, officials and parents, in conjunction with our umpires continue to build on the successful foundation established in the East Fremantle District. We continue to provide a “positive experience unmatched by any other” and this initiative has added to our already successful formula.

The Centre of Excellence is the foundation for the WAFL’s future and a key to the ongoing development of our great game in Western Australia. The aim is to ensure all players coming through the WA development system have exposure to opportunities that maximise their potential.

This initiative aims to deliver:

Higher quality WAFL players
Greater number of draftable players to the AFL
Highest standard of coaching and support staff
Higher quality of community level players
Higher quality of educated parents for future generations

The concept of WAFL Clubs as a “Centre of Excellence” for the District is the foundation of future growth and prosperity. It has been endorsed by the AFL, WAFC and all WAFL Boards. This model will continue to grow the game in Western Australia and find a synergy between the WAFL Club and its District.

NAB Auskick

The NAB AFL Auskick program provides boys and girls with a fun and safe Australian Football experience that serves as an introduction to a lifetime of involvement in the game. The program is not just about introducing children to Australian Football – it activates and develops within each child the desire for a healthy lifestyle and an association with our great game. This is achieved through activities and programs for individuals, small groups and teams, and aims to assist development of personal and social skills.

NAB AFL Auskick is a program managed by the local community for the community. Adults play an essential role, whether as parents, coaches, administrators or officials, in supporting junior football in Australia.

Children learn best by example. Therefore codes of conduct provide clear behavioural guidelines and promote a quality environment in which both the game and the participants can flourish.

Code of conduct – Parents and spectators

Encourage children to participate regardless of ability

Encourage participants to always play by the rules

Never ridicule mistakes or losses

Remember that participants learn best by example. Applaud good play by all teams

Never publicly disagree with officials. If you disagree, raise the issue privately through appropriate channels

Actively discourage racial abuse

Recognise the value and importance of volunteer coaches

Remember that participants play for fun and are not miniature professionals

Condemn the use of violence in any form, be it by spectators, coaches, officials or players

Encourage players to accept the umpire's decisions

Demonstrate exemplary behaviour by not using foul language, or harassing players, coaches or officials

Smoking and the consumption of alcohol is unacceptable at junior sport

Code of conduct – Coaches and teachers

Be reasonable in your demands: consider young players' time, energy and enthusiasm levels

Avoid over-playing the talented players. The just 'average' players' need and deserve equal time. n Keep winning in perspective: maximise participation because children participate for fun and enjoyment

Stress safety: ensure that equipment and facilities are safe and appropriate for age and ability levels

Consider maturity levels: match up practice schedules, activities and degree of competition

Develop team respect: for opponents as well as for the judgement of officials and opposing coaches

Recognise the importance of injury: seek and follow the physician's advice concerning injured players

Keep informed: with sound principles of coaching and skill development, and development of children

Teach sporting behaviour: create opportunities to teach appropriate sports behaviour as well as basic skills

Get priorities right: ensure skill learning and appropriate behaviour are the priority over competition

Teach fair play: help children understand the responsibilities and implications of their freedom to choose between fair and unfair play

CHAIRMANS REPORT DFDC EF2011

To all District Stakeholders

2011 has been year of some significant changes personnel wise and structure wise. Change is always treated with caution and requires that we look to challenge ourselves to be better at what we are doing and not accept that that is good enough but rather how are we able to better support the people and our volunteers for greater outcomes. This only comes from a united effort by all stakeholders and with solid planning.

I am pleased to say that East Fremantle District has had two significant strategic initiatives put in place.

Firstly the establishment of a District Football Development Council Executive with its first meeting held recently. This group consists of Adam Kelly CEO East Fremantle Football Club CEO, Hope Munro District Manager East Fremantle, Russell Dower Competition Director JCC, Daren Bell Guest District Officer and JCC executive Officer and me as Chair. The aim of this group is to link between the various Groups at the WAFC and their meetings to feed back clearly and transparently the matters that need addressing globally that will affect our district including the Junior Competition Council (JCC) and our most important stakeholders our Junior Clubs. These groups consist of our District Manager Meets, District Officer Meets, Competition Directors Meets and Chairmen Meets.

Topics that will be discussed and reviewed are the financial resourcing by way of sponsorship and the structure of our JCC and how we may better support and resource these roles in our District as well as growing the numbers enjoying our great game. Pathways for players from juniors to hopefully playing with East Fremantle Football Club

The DFDC have already reviewing all positions and have sent out our Expression of interest and the notice for our AGM. The DFDC is looking at the realistic workloads and expectation on our volunteer members and will share these thoughts and ideas with our member clubs.

The other significant goal that has been achieved is the re-establishment of the DFDC Group made up of a broad group of community stakeholders to work on evolving the Future Directions Paper for East Fremantle District; the report is available to you on our District web site http://www.effc.com.au/district-news/east-fremantle-future-directions-report/. This group will look across the wider district including our Junior Competition, links to schools, links to Amateur Football, links to Women’s Football, links to Umpiring and working closely with WAFC District Staff and Management.

The members that will make up the DFDC are listed below. Again this group will meet three times annually to address the core values as identified in the Future Directions Paper.

The outcomes and progress of this group will be available to all district stakeholders via our website

I am sure you will agree that this group will help us shape and identify our way ahead and to also assist in finding solutions on the challenges that face us

Our District is very proactive in the Quality Club Program and it is appreciated the effort and enthusiasm that has been shown by all areas of our District

I would like to again recognize the many volunteers across the community that make it possible week in and week out for our great game to be enjoyed by so many and in particular acknowledge the Presidents of all our Community Clubs at all levels and acknowledge another tremendous year in 2011

I would like to acknowledge the new District Staff in Hope Munro and Daren Bell and to recognize the support of our WAFL Club East Fremantle and the support of the WAFC in particular Warren Nel Manager, Community Development.

Finally I wish everyone the very best for the coming Christmas and New Year and look forward to 2012 season.

East Fremantle Junior Club of the Year

Congratulations to the Riverton Junior Football Club on being named the East Fremantle Junior Competitions, Junior Club of the Year. It is a fantastic achievement which highlights the hard work and dedication of its member’s. Their professionalism and commitment to developing young footballers and fostering their participation in our great game is a credit to them.

It was an extremely tough decision though, as the efforts of all junior clubs in the district have been commendable. The EFDFDC would again like to thank our volunteers, who are the backbone of our great game, for continuing to grow football within our district and we look forward to an even bigger 2012!

BUSINESS ARISING FROM 2010 MINUTES:
The Treasurer and the Auditors reports were not tabled. The Treasurer was to send through all information to Presidents when he received it but this did not happen. Dave will answer questions when it is his time to speak.

MR GRANT DORRINGTON (WAFC): Grant thanked everyone for inviting him to the AGM. Grant gave a brief summary on the District Model and how it all comes together. The new stadium could be built at Burswood but this is still in the pipeline. Grant announced that Bob Uttenbroek, EFFC Director has been given Life Membership of the WAFC, we all congratulate Bob and with all the years of hard work that Bob has put into Football being given Life Membership is certainly well deserved. Grant wished everyone a very merry Christmas and a safe and happy New Year.

CHAIRMAN’S REPORT: Geoff spoke about the Junior Reform Proposal for 2012 this includes the changes to some age groups, E Point and cross district football. All stakeholders will be able to see this report and are asked to read it and send in feedback to Hope or Daren. Geoff also asked that stakeholders read the East Fremantle District Future Directions Report and again please send in any feedback to Hope or Daren. Geoff thanks everyone for all the hard work done during the season. Geoff is looking forward to the 2012 season. Also see Geoff’s report from the Grand Final Booklet. DISTRICT MANAGER: See report

DISTRICT OFFICER: Daren spoke about the 40 primary schools and 50 high schools in the district and that all clubs should get to know who their local school representatives are as they can be of great support to your clubs. Daren spoke briefly about the Auskick and the all girls teams. Daren congratulated everyone on a fantastic 2011 season and thanked them for all the hard work and he is now looking forward to an even better 2012 season. For all those who do not know Daren is getting married in early December so we would like to wish Daren and Emma all the best for the future.

TREASURERS REPORT: Dave explained that statements and all paperwork for 2010 and 2011 have all been sent to the auditor at the WAFC but the audit has not been completed so was not available for the AGM meeting. The budget for 2011 has come in quite close to what was expected and Hope will send out the auditor’s report in full as soon as she receives it. Dave was asked if the budget for 2010 was available for the meeting but Dave said he didn’t know that it had to be presented for the AGM and he had left it at home. Dave will send out the 2010 budget to all Presidents tomorrow.

GENERAL BUSINESS:
Russell asked how Geoff was elected as District Chairman again? Grant Dorrington replied that Geoff was elected by the WAFC and Hope, Adam Kelly and Warren Nel endorsed it.
BENDIGO BANK: In discussions with the Bendigo Bank at the moment to come on board as a district sponsor.
E POINT: This was taken on board in the 2011 season. Daren asked for feedback from clubs on what they thought about having E Point? Susan sent an over view of the e point for 2011. Each district have their own ideas on how they run e point, if any clubs have ideas of how to improve it or if they think they have a better way of working the e point system please let Warren Nel know. At the next JCC meeting we can go through the information that has come in.
CROSS DISTRICT: East Fremantle district is one district that stands alone as they don’t have to go cross district due to the clubs retaining players and our youth teams are very stable. The cross district issue is a strategic view and is there for us to think about.
AGE GROUPS: This will only affect the 14 year olds at the moment.
17’s AGE GROUP: Clubs should encourage their 17’s players to move into Amateurs when their junior football has finished.
18’s AGE GROUP FOOTBALL: There is talk of starting an 18’s competition.

Trials for the 2012 WA State team are about to begin so dust off your boots and head down to training. Under some of the best coaches in WA you will be run through drills and skills sessions and scratch matches for your chance to be selected to represent WA in the AFL youth girls national championships 2012.....Important information is outlined below;

Dockers Help Junior Footy

Dockers Help Junior Footy

Riverton Junior Football Club were lucky enough to have the Fremantle Dockers come down to their club open day on Sunday. As part of being the club of the year in 2011 for the East Fremantle football district Riverton Junior Football club were rewarded by having the Fremantle Dockers assist the club with the signing of players to the club for 2012 on open day last sunday.

The kids were treated to autographs, clinics and photos with some of their Fremantle footy heros Michael Barlow, Nick Lower, Aaron Sandilands and Lee Spurr.

The ongoing support that the Fremantle Dockers football club gives to grass roots football is a reflection on the value that the club puts on their young fans and getting kids having fun playing football.

Dockers Give Away Coles AFL Schools Goal Posts

Dockers Present Coles AFL Schools Goal Post Padding to East Fremantle Primary School

East Fremantle Primary School was lucky enough to be presented with brand new Coles AFL Schools goal posts by Fremantle Dockers players.

The Dockers presented the whole school with the new goal padding as part of the Coles AFL Schools prize give away. The dockers were interviewed about their footy experiences at school and junior footy level by one of the students for all the kids to listen to before the dockers took the school football team for a clinic. The school team got to run through the dockers community competition games such as Freo fast footy, Freo quick kick and Freo long bomb.

A few lucky students were also treated to some special prizes and give aways that the Dockers had.

Cross District Preseason Competition

Congratulations to all the teams and clubs from the East Fremantle district that competed in the cross district preseason competition in the youth age groups.

From all accounts the kids enjoyed the hitout against different teams and are ready to tackle the start of season 2012.

A big thank you goes to Dave Lowe the competition director for organising the games and Daren Bell for assisting him.

April holiday Clinic

Kids Meet Their Dockers Hero's at East Fremantle

The lucky 220 kids who attend the East Fremantle April Holiday clinic were treated with star Dockers players Pavlich, Sandilands, Griffen, McPharlin, Ibbotson, Menegola, Sutcliffe and Duffield. The Kids got to ask the players question, have a kick, get some autographs and photo's with all of the Dockers that came down to the clinic.

It was a great way to finish the day after learning some new skills and having some fun with the East Fremantle Players, having a sausage sizzle for lunch all while wearing their brand new East Fremantle jumpers that they recieved at the start of the day.

A big thank you to all the East Fremantle and Fremantle players and Brent for coming down to help on the day, John and all his staff for organising the food and beverages for the day, Adam and the East Fremantle Football Club for all their ongoing support and to Daren Bell for coordinating the whole event.

Parents are saying "We made it a family affair with both my husband and daughter coming along. My son is already asking when the next clinic is on."

"He thoroughly enjoyed himself and was very excited about his new jumper which he worn to his own footy training last night with pride."

Keep an eye out for our next exciting school holiday clinic in July where we will be getting some Eagles players coming down to spend time with all the kids.

East Fremantle District Football Launch

Our inaugural East Fremantle all of district season launch, held Wednesday 11^th April 2012, partnered by the East Fremantle District Development Council, the East Fremantle Football Club and the Bendigo Bank, was successfully enjoyed by a wide group of district stakeholders across the East Fremantle district and the wider football community.

I look forward to this initiative becoming a calendar event for our East Fremantle district.

DFDC update

East Fremantle District Football Development Council update (DFDC)

To members of the Junior Committee Councils, Junior Club members, Amateur Football Presidents, DFDC Members, School Ambassadors, District and WAFC staff, the work that is done by you all is amazing.

2012, as always, presents new enthusiasm and new challenges. This sets the scene even more importantly for all of our stakeholders holistically across the district to work collaboratively to achieve positive outcomes and to challenge constructively, not just accept the way it is.

Some of the issues for all districts have been identified by the Council of Chairs and will form the strategic direction of our efforts into an ever-changing future.

Our East Fremantle Future Direction paper has identified these and has come up with enablers to deal with them. We now have the challenge of taking responsibility to effect the needed changes.

Across the Metro and Regional Areas common points have been collated, the main ones being:

1. Game day environments

2. Volunteer recognition and education

3. Facilities - and it is pleasing to see that an audit is being carried out via DSR on all Junior Club facilities

4. Retention and pathways to retain our players. In the EF Junior District we are at best holding and being propped up by a strong Auskick participation. Mind you, girls in Auskick are an area of concern in our district. We must remember that we want participants to enjoy the experience, not just the winning.

5. Facilitating emerging markets, in particular women’s football (the largest growth segment bar none), Multicultural engagement, Indigenous engagement and the disadvantaged.

For the first time in many years our district has a functional DFDC Executive, this group is made up of community stakeholders working together in “Building and engaging communities through Football.”

This will see delegates from our key stakeholders looking to meet and strategically provide direction across our entire district. Delegates are made up of DFDC volunteers and District staff, Amateur football, Junior Council volunteers, Women’s football representatives and WAFL representatives.

From this we will develop our DFDC Council, which will engage a broader range of stakeholders who will work to assist in strategic needs of the district as we move forward.

To finish, I am confident that between the WAFC, the WAAFL, the WAWFL, the DFDC, the WAFL Club, our District Staff and our Junior District Clubs and volunteers working collaboratively across our district, we will evolve and grow our great game.
